Iβm Mir Tafseer Nayeem, a PhD Candidate in Computing Science at the University of Alberta, advised by Prof. Davood Rafiei. My research centers on Language Modeling with a focus on User-Centric NLP. Specifically, I study how user attributesβsuch as age, dialect, intent, and stylistic preferencesβcan be systematically integrated into the development of large language models (LLMs) and downstream synthesis tasks, including summarization and opinion generation, to build more inclusive, adaptive, and context-aware language technologies.
My research is supported by the Huawei PhD Fellowship. My work received the Best Resource Paper Award at EMNLP 2024 and the Area Chair Favorite Paper Award at COLING 2018.
